The East Northamptonshire College: 16-19 Bursary

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is designed to help support those young people in Year 12 and Year 13 who face the greatest barriers to continuing in education or training post 16.

The 16-19 Bursary Fund has two elements:

  1. £1,200 bursary paid by the school to all students in the listed most vulnerable group:
  • Young people in care aged 16-17
  • Care leavers aged 16,17,18
  • Young people aged 16,17,18 in receipt of income support
  • Disabled young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance

Payment

This will be paid on a monthly basis via BACs (one week in arrears) provided the student has fulfilled all parts of their Learning Agreement with the College. 

  1. A discretionary bursary paid by the school to students who face genuine financial constraints to participation in education or training post 16.  Eligible learners can apply for the Bursary to provide funds for essential course materials, equipment and transport of up to a maximum of £500. Prior to any expenditure students should complete a claim form and have it approved by the Head of Sixth Form. Students must provide receipts for expenditure in order to access bursary funds. Although there is no prescriptive list,  the Bursary will be used to provide financial support for:
  • Assistance with ongoing transport costs
  • Individual purchases of course related equipment or resources
  • Assistance with costs of educational visits or trips or interviews
  • Specific costs linked to costs related to family emergency or change in circumstance
  • Resit examination fees

 

The payment levels will be assessed for each eligible learner using the Income Bands identified in the table below:

Bursary payments are dependent on the student fulfilling all parts of their Learning Agreement with the College including min 90% attendance, good attitude to learning.
